We had 5
nights in Moab at the Ramada,
very comfortable and cheap! Our favourite places to eat were Eddie
McStiffs,
which brews excellent beer and does interesting tasty salads, and the
Slick
Rock Cafe located in the old Uranium offices, also good salads and a
convenient
Internet Cafe. Arches National Park, 10 minutes North up the
road, has a wonderful drive with loads of
well signed pull-offs and picnic places. We saw too many arches to show
but here are some of the most spectacular ones. We loved shady
Sand
Dune
Arch where we kicked off our shoes in the cool sand. The walk up to
Delicate
Arch (It should be called Landscape Arch and Landscape Arch should be
called Delicate Arch but were misnamed by a cartographer and the names
stuckk!) on the slick rock in 100 degree F heat was a real challenge
and we
downed 1.5 litres of water each en-route.
Moab used to be a Uranium
town
but is now totally devoted to tourism - especially Mountain Biking. It
is just south of the Colorado
and you can get above it to the
Red Rock Rim on a cable chair lift for
spectacular views. The Colorado is too dangerous for bathing so we
dunked
ourselves in the silty water to cool off before a lovely walk up Negro
Bill's Canyon (where we met our toad) just off the main canyon.
