Just before we came upon this joyful parade we had passed the site of the cremations. We were reluctant to go in, though invited,  but we later found out that everyone is welcome, and in fact the more people you can get to the cremation the better. Religion and its symbols are  everywhere. Bali has to import Indonesian labour because the locals are always dashing back to their village Temple for one festival or another. It even gets under your feet, for every entrance, be it to a village, a house, or a room, is bedecked by little baskets of foody gifts to placate the bad demons which grub along the ground. You can buy the little bamboo leaf baskets by the dozen in the market, as you would  a packet of tissues back in the UK.
