This is what the trip to Vienna was all about! Here is Sir Simon Rattle and his team, Barbara Bonney, Birgit Remmert, Kurt Streit, Thomas Hampson and the Chorus taking the final bow at the end of  Sunday's memorable lunch time performance of Beethoven's 9th Symphony with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.  This performance, and the one on Tuesday evening, were recorded live by EMI and the combination of the "best bits" are now imortalised on CD.

Fortunately the schedule around the concerts allowed for some serious site-seeing! Also, while Kathy rehearsed and sang  Rol was able to ride the trams -  something he is a great fan of.

Some of our most memorable moments - drinking beer (Rol did this one)  in Mozart's favourite cafe (the Frauenhuber) and visiting his house (both of us - now a rather desolate museum), seeing a letter from Mahler in the archive of the Vienna Symphony Chorus at the Konzerhaus, and riding the famous Big Wheel at Prater - not forgetting the Parks and Palaces, the Hundertwasser House and the Toilets in the Museum of Modern Art, - and Viennese cake sampled in several cafe's.!
