Holland and
Amsterdam
This background is Dutch bulbfields in April! Truly extraordinary. The colours just don't seem real. People have said that Holland is boring but we disagree. The landscape is open and spacious, which is wonderful for cycling, and the towns and architecture enchanting. Moreover the Hydo-engineering is a work of art in itself

Kathy first went to Holland in late December of 1993 with the City of Birmingham Symphony Chorus for a Concert with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. She fell in love with the place!
Rotterdam at night jpg Magical Rotterdam at night. St.Stephen's tide is the big family festival rather than Christmas.
Camping Delftse Hout jpg "Real Camping" with our little tunnel tent at Delftse Hout (woods) Campsite. We had 2 days at Delft and Rotterdam on our way to France in July 1995. We loved Delft and went to Rotterdam on the train. It was hard to understand why the Dutch leave Holland in the summer!

Camping near Amsterdam at Easter 1996 was jolly cold and the bulbs were not yet flowering. We stayed at a place called Roelofarendsveen in Zuid Holland on Brassemermeer  and right up against Hollands first steam pump drained polder, Haalemmermeer
Camping de Braassem
on Brassemermeer.

It was hard to believe that Europort was just behind the van! Brielsemeer jpg Our first Camper Van trip in Suzi was Easter 1997 and this time we did get to see some wonderful bulbfields and we visited Keukenhof. We discovered the joys of cycling in Holland and toured around Zeeland (Scheldt estuary) visiting the amazing dams and flood defences.
Easter 2000 was our first trip in Daisy and we explored the  shoreline villages of Markermeer and Ijsselmeer by bike. We drove along the incredible 19 mile Afsluitdijk that sealed off the Zuiderzee and created Ijsselmeer from the sea in 1932. The bulb fields were even better this year. We cycled to Markem in Markermeer (part of Ijsselmeer) along the causeway. Markem jpg
